The workshop started with two inspirational speeches of Antoni Lewkowicz and Volker Rachold giving advice for us young researchers and sharing their thoughts on a successful career in permafrost research.

The modelling exercise for beginners held by Moritz Langer gave insight into modelling techniques as well as the opportunity to experiment with a heat transfer model, letting us test fictional scenarios and putting in parameters of filed sites of participants.

In the editors session led by Stephan Gruber we were given some tips on how to publish a good paper. He emphasized the importance of seeking criticism, reading the authors instructions or comments and reviews as well as a couple other useful advice on writing a good paper and getting it published in a distinguished journal.

Margareta Johansson gave a refreshing talk which was tellingly called "Me, me, me, me, me and me", where she also showed her way of handling work and family.

In the Session on designing a research project we exchanged thoughts on our "creative mode" and tried ourselves in formulating key hypotheses.
Finally it was time for the World Café, where, after getting used to its sometimes confusing methods, we brainstormed in numerous and changing discussion groups and drafted our questions for future permafrost research.

Overall it was an interesting, informative and fruitful day.
