Who are we?

Dr. Margareta Johansson, University of Lund / Royal Swedish Academy of SciencesDr. Margareta Johansson, University of Lund / Royal Swedish Academy of SciencesThe one who will tell you a little bit about doing field work in northernmost Sweden is me, Margareta Johansson. I am a scientist working at Lund University and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

My research is focusing on lowland permafrost in the Abisko area, how it is affected by the ongoing climate change and how the permafrost interacts with the vegetation.

As I mentioned in the Background material, it is very easy to go to Abisko, so it is not a major expedition but only a short field trip, so there are very few things at home that I will start to miss during my field trip (apart from my kids of course).

There are a few things that I cannot travel without during summer; 1) mosquito repellent, 2) mosquito net 3) my yellow rubber boots.

This year, I have two master students as field assistances namely John Bengtsson and Eric Torkelsson. They are both students at my department (Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science) at Lund University and I have got to know them and their work through courses.

They have both just finished their Bachelor thesis where they looked at how different types of vegetation can affect permafrost temperatures.
