The University of Exeter, UNEXE, is a leading international research-intensive University with research expertise in some of the most fundamental issues facing the world today, ranging from functional materials to climate change. The University has considerable experience in European Commission-funded research. It is currently participating in 47 FP7 EU-funded collaborative research projects, and is coordinating eight projects within either the Marie Curie or Cooperation programs.

Professors Pierre Friedlingstein and Peter Cox are part of the new interdisciplinary research initiative on "Climate Change and Sustainable Futures", which involves around one hundred researchers at the University of Exeter. A particular area of excellence at Exeter is the modelling of interactions between climate and the land carbon cycle – research that is carried out in close collaboration with the Met Office.
